This course is for the person who is thinking about getting started in keeping honey bees as a hobby. It offers the opportunity to decide if beekeeping is something that a person wants to do and provides basic information on how to maintain a colony successfully the first year.

Location: Zion Lutheran Church, 218 E Crawford, Deer Park, WA 99006

Class Dates:  March 21 & 28, 2026, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm (this is a two-day class). Times are subject to change.

Students will also have access to any optional hands-on field days held by the association during the beekeeping season. These Field Days will be rescheduled or canceled in case of bad weather.

For those who are not yet members of Backyard Beekeepers Association, a free one-year membership will be provided when signing up for the class. Note that previous memberships are not refundable. A free one-year Washington State Beekeepers Association (WASBA) membership is provided as well with the successful completion of the class.
